Qihao Tang's journey as an artist is deeply rooted in his spiritual and cultural heritage. As a disciple of Tibetan Buddhism Vajrayana, his early artistic training took place in the Tibetan regions of Sichuan, where he studied the traditional art of thangka painting under the guidance of his master. This formative experience has profoundly influenced his illustrative style, which is a fusion of his spiritual practices and artistic expression.
Living and working in the UK, Tang's illustrations are a dialogue between the East and West, exploring and integrating the rich tapestries of Asian cultures. The ethereal quality of Tibetan Buddhism, the intricate narratives of Chinese Dunhuang murals, the delicate subtleties of Japanese Ukiyo-e, and the vibrant dynamics of contemporary Japanese anime all coalesce in his work. These elements are not just artistic influences; they are integral to his exploration of cultural identity. Through his illustrations, Tang attempts to convey a pursuit and adherence to an inner childlike innocence, using his art as a bridge between ancient traditions and modern interpretations.

My research focuses on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to visualise and interpret characters and narratives deeply rooted in Chinese traditional culture and folklore. This approach not only facilitates a novel means of artistic expression but also serves as a methodological innovation in the study of cultural identity. Through AI-driven illustrations, my work aims to offer new insights into the complexities of Chinese heritage, exploring how these traditional elements can be transformed and understood in the modern digital landscape.
